Minnesota-based artist and arts educator Kimber Olson creates abstract paintings in acrylic and oil/cold wax medium through an approach that’s informed by 20 years of fiber art practice. Deeply inspired by the natural world, Olson’s work features bold palettes, patterns and textures that reflect her observations and experiences. Expanding on a visual vocabulary developed during years of fiber art practice, her multilayered paintings emerge through a lively dialogue with materials.
Olson has a particular interest in the healing qualities of art, which led her to study the intersections of imagination, creativity and spirit at United Theological Seminary, where she earned a master’s degree in theology and art. Her passion for igniting the creative spark in others is shared through workshops and residencies at schools, senior communities, residential shelters, correctional facilities and more.
A recipient of grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Jerome Foundation, and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council/McKnight Foundation, Olson’s work has been exhibited in regional and national venues including the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St. Paul, Minn., and Fiber Art International XIII in Pittsburgh, Penn. Her art is held in the collections at Allina and Sanford Health Systems.
